Iced Chai Tea Latte

Ingredients

  • 24 ounces of filtered water

  • 3 bags Tazo chai tea

  • 6 ounces International Delight Sweet & Creamy coffee creamer

  • Pumpkin pie spice (to sprinkle on top)

Directions

  1. Bring water to a boil (212 degrees Fahrenheit).

  2. Add the tea bags and let sit for at least 5 minutes.

    • We like to brew this the night before and put it in the fridge to cool.

    • When I’m impatient, I pour the tea into a shaker with ice and strain it into the cups, but use 16 ounces of water in the kettle instead of 24 to compensate for the melting of the ice.

  3. Fill two cups (16 ounces or bigger) just below halfway with ice.

  4. Pour 1/2 of the tea in each cup (12 ounces each).

  5. Pour 2 ounces of the creamer in each cup.

(Update: If you pick up a can of International Delight’s Cold Foam Creamer, you can skip step 6.)

  6. Pour 4 ounces of the creamer into a blender and whip for 1 minute.

  7. Divide the foam between the two teas.

  8. Sprinkle the pumpkin pie spice over the top of the foam.

Nutritional Facts

Depending on how long you let the tea bags steep, each drink will have 47 - 68 mg of caffeine per prepared cup. The tea bags did not list any other nutritional facts since the calories, fat, carbohydrates, protein, sugars, and sodium were all listed as insignificant.

The creamer has 35 calories per tablespoon. 1 ounce = 2 tablespoons. Therefore, the 3 ounces in each prepared cup (between what was added and the foam) = 6 tablespoons or 210 calories, 9g fat (3g saturated fat, 3 g monosaturated fat), 120mg sodium, 30g carbohydrates, and 30g sugar.

Let’s Compare Nutrition and Cost

Comparatively, a grande Starbucks iced chai tea latte has 240 calories, 42g sugar, and 4g fat. Starbucks sells their grande for almost $7 locally. Here’s how the cost breaks down for this recipe…

  • box of Tazo Chai tea bags = $3.99 / 16 tea bags = $0.25 each x 3 bags = $0.75

  • bottle of coffee creamer = $4.19 / 64 ounces = $0.07 per oz x 6 = $0.42

  • pumpkin pie spice blend = $1.99 / at least 30 cups = $0.06 per cup x 2 = $0.12

$0.75 + $0.42 + $0.12 = $1.29 / 2 cups = $0.65 per 16 ounce cup

Check Out This Purchase

Since purchasing a loose chai tea blend in Blue Ridge, Georgia (read about our trip here), I realized I needed a way to brew multiple cups of tea at once. I found this glass teapot on Amazon. I love the look and it worked great.
