Pokemon Birthday Party

Jacob turned 7 in 2021 when we were still quarantining with Covid. We had sold our house and our new house wasn’t built, yet, so we were living in an apartment. We opted to host his party on our pool deck (with the option of going inside the clubhouse if the weather do not cooperate). Luckily, the weather was great and the firepit on the pool deck became the centerpiece of the party.

The Invitation

This party was before Canva was a thing. I believe I made the invitation by layering text and images in Microsoft Word (the old school way), but I can’t find the file.

The Cake Pop Holder

This was also the year that Jacob was required to do monthly creativity projects for his gifted class. This month, his class was given a candy shop theme. Mid-project we decided to have his creation double for his birthday party as a cake pop stand.

To create the stand, he first chose the characters he wanted and uploaded them into Cricut Design Space (project link). We then used the Print Then Cut feature to create paper stencils.

The paper stencils were first outlined on a large piece of styrofoam and then the outlines were cut. After the foam was shaped, he used the paper stencils to draw the inner lines. Once these lines were penciled, he painted the characters.

Pokeball Cake Pops

To make the Pokeball cake pops, we made a box of cake and then mixed the cooled cake with frosting. The mixture was then rolled into balls and placed on a cookie sheet. We placed the cookie sheet in the freezer for a few hours and pulled it out to dip lollipop sticks in melted chocolate and insert them into the balls. The cookie sheet was then left in the freezer overnight.

The next day, we carefully removed each cake pop from the cookie sheet and dipped the whole thing into white melted chocolate. The cake pops were then placed in the syrofoam stand to dry.

Once they hardened, the pokeball cake pops were dipped halfway into red melted chocolate. Again, they were placed in the stand to cool and harden. After they were completely dry to the touch, the pops were placed in treat bags.
